Learning How To Care For Someone With Dementia
Approved by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), this training program provides certification in Dementia Specialty for long-term care workers, including managers (there is no longer a separate class for managers) across Washington state.
State-approved Dementia course curriculum:
- The different types of dementias
- Communications
- Behaviors
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Medications
- Approaches in care as as caregivers provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs).

Single Day Training
The one-day Dementia class also includes a competency exam, which requires a score of 80% or higher to successfully receive a DSHS-approved Dementia Certificate and 8 hours of Continuing Education units.
